About

The IANUS Crowdsourcing Observatory has been launched by members of the Data and Web Science Lab (DATALAB), the research group of the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, being specialized in ICT research and innovation on human-centered data science and multi-scope analytics. It has been developed within the context of the project IANUS - Inspiring and Anchoring Trust in Science, Research and Innovation. The IANUS Trust in science Observatory (by Datalab AUTh) is a platform for analyzing and visualizing data related to discussions on the trust-in-science thematic and will be a vital part of the IANUS project. It collects tweets from the social network of Twitter, aiming to raise awareness and inform the public on trends relevant to trust and distrust in science, most discussed aspects, most active users, and other acquired statistics.

The app provides a comprehensive overview of public views towards various issues related to trust in science (e.g. public views about climate change, COVID-19 vaccines). It contributes to understanding from a data science perspective how the public reacts and responds (either positively or negatively) to contemporary and everyday topics having to do with trust in science, scientists, and scientific advancements. In addition, it informs users on statistics acquired from the analysis of the Twitter data. Our intention has been to detect and present public discussion trends in the trust-in-science thematic, dominant trends in users’ attitudes, and overall provide a platform that reflects in an evidence-based way the dominant discourses and narratives surrounding trust in science.
